Thank you for choosing Drive Home Safe Driving School for your Defensive Driving  and Teen Driver Education. This page will summarize our administrative policies. Your payment will constitute your acknowledgement and acceptance of these polices. Drive Home Safe suggests that you retain a copy for your reference.

PAYMENT

• Drive Home Safe accepts cash, checks and credit cards (VISA, Mastercard, American Express, or Discover)
• A Minimum $75.00 non-refundable deposit is required to enroll in the Sliver Star and Gold Star programs.
• Payment in full is required no later than by the first scheduled day of class, unless other arrangements are made.

CLASSROOM TRAINING (SILVER STAR & GOLD STAR PROGRAMS)

Policies reflecting requirements of the State of Illinois have been highlighted with an asterisk.*

• A student may enroll in a driver education course, but must be 15 years of age to enroll or must turn 15 during the classroom portion.*
• The student must attend 30 hours of classroom training.*
• A student may miss up to four (4) classroom sessions but any missed classes must be made up.* Call Drive Home Safe at 630-232-8700 to register for make up times.
• If a student misses more than four classroom sessions, the student is considered "dropped" and must re-enroll and retake the entire course from the beginning.*
• Classroom rules are posted at the school and on our web site.
• A test will be given on the last day of class. A minimum grade of 60% is required to satisfactorily pass the classroom phase*. .
• Parents bear the responsibility for the timely drop off and pick up of students. The Drive Home Safe classroom instructor is not expected to stay after class with students awaiting pick up.

IN-VEHICLE TRAINING

A student can only begin in-vehicle behind the wheel training once they have a learner's permit and they have paid in full. Since our classroom and in-vehicle training are integrated, we encourage customers to schedule behind the wheel training as concurrent as possible with the classroom portion. This provides the student with the best possible educational experience. However, it may not be possible or practical to schedule all behind the wheel training during the classroom portion.

• All lessons are scheduled on a first-come, first-served basis.
• Drive Home Safe requires a 24-hour notice to reschedule or cancel an in-vehicle lesson.
• If a student cancels an appointment, they will be rescheduled when appointments become available.
• In order to allow time for the student to practice key skills, Drive Home Safe requires at least one day between behind the wheel sessions.
• By law, all students must have their driving permit with them for behind the wheel vehicle lessons*. A student must wear glasses or contacts during in-vehicle lessons if they are required. Drive Home Safe also requires students to wear closed-toe shoes (no flip flops) during lessons as they provide better traction on the control pedals.
• All Behind The Wheel Sessions must be completed within 9 months from the time of registration in any Teen Program.

BLUE SLIP REQUIREMENTS - PROOF OF INFORMATION

If you are 15 to 17 years old, you can attend the Driver's Education program. However, restrictions allow only "eligible" students to received their Certificate of Completion ("Blue Slip"). State Eligibility Requirements for Drive Home Safe to submit for your Blue Slip are as follows.

If you are currently enrolled in a high school (public or private school):

• You must verify that you have had at least eight (8) passing grades during the previous two (2) semesters last ending prior to requesting a Blue Slip from the Secretary of State.
• Proof of this must be documented using one of the following:
  • Report cards
  • Transcripts
  • Driver Education Approval Form (signed by your school)

If you are enrolled in high school but have not passed eight (8) courses during the previous two (2) semesters:

• Proof must be documented by the Driver Education Approval Form (signed by your school)

If you are dropped out of school - several options apply:

• If you have received eight (8) passing grades in the two (2) semesters prior to ordering your Blue Slip, proof of this must be documented by using the following:
  • Report cards
  • Transcripts
  • Driver Education Approval Form (signed by your school)
  • Provide a copy of your G. E. D. course of enrollment in an Alternative Education Program
  • Obtain written consent of your parent(s)/guardian and your regional superintendent
  • Obtain a waiver from the district superintendent or chief school administrator from the school district in which you reside.

If you are Home Schooled:

• Parental Consent Form signed by parent or guardian

Note: We can not order the Blue Slip without one of these up to date verifications. In addition, you must also meet all of the requirements of the course.
